With our annual fashion awards back for its twelfth year, we caught up with Founder and Director of the Midlands Fashion Awards, Jenny Eason.

“I am really excited that the Midlands Fashion Awards is back for another year and to be celebrating our twelfth year is phenomenal. Our aim has always been to help independent, emerging and creative talent from across the whole of the Midlands and that vision hasn’t changed since we started the awards in 2007.

“I am really proud to be a part of the Midlands community which has some fantastically creative and talented people within the region. Everyone thinks fashion sits in London and yet our universities and cities are full of designers whether that’s clothing or accessories, or people with an eye for fashion styling or photography. We want to celebrate these people and give them a platform to showcase their skills.

“The Midlands Fashion Awards is not just for people involved in the fashion industry it is open to the general public too. As part of the event we have an annual fashion catwalk show which draws people from across the wider Midlands region – from Leicestershire to Derbyshire, Staffordshire to Warwickshire and Worcestershire to Nottinghamshire and it is also the perfect networking event, which then culminates in our award ceremony.

“We aim to grow our awards every year and 2019 is a very exciting year. Sustainability and looking after the environment have become pivotal, so we have created a sustainability award, as we believe it is the right time to promote and support those with sustainability at the very core of their business.

“We want our 2019 awards to be bigger and better. I am hoping we will get more entries so we can provide a platform for even more talent and also, I hope the wider Midlands community gets behind our awards and supports us. We have a number of sponsors on board and we are always looking for more, but more importantly we want people to come and support this event on Friday 11th October.”

The awards are open to fashion and accessory designers, stylists, make-up artists and fashion photographers and new for 2019 is the ‘Sustainability’ category. To apply to take part in the 2019 awards, which will take place at CBSO Centre, Birmingham on Friday 11th October, visit www.midlandsfashionawards.co.uk. The deadline for entries is Friday 14th June.

Shortlisted entrants will be invited to meet a panel of judges at Hotel Du Vin on Saturday 22nd June where a brief interview and assessment of their collection or portfolio will be carried out. Judges will select finalists for each category that will then go forward to the awards event. The MFA panel of judges will include a selection of industry professionals each with experience and expertise in their field.

Tickets for the awards will go on sale in July 2019.
